  7.     You know times are tough when even a neurologist with
  8. popular books and a hit movie isn't recession proof. Case in
  9. point: Oliver Sacks, the doctor who won accolades for his book
  10. Awakenings, now a major film starring Robin Williams. Sacks,
  11. 57, is being laid off from the Bronx Psychiatric Center, where
  12. he has worked for 25 years. He joins hundreds of other
  13. employees who will be let go by New York State institutions.
  14. While Sacks will not be at a loss for work or money, he sees
  15. the layoffs as a disaster for the patients. Says he: "The cost
  16. in human terms will be incalculable."
